3D Modeling

Scenes - Low Poly Environments

Creating low poly nature scenes is what inspired me to learn 3D. All of my 3D work has been created in the open source software "Blender". All of the scenes shown use assets created by me.

Designing in the low poly style was very helpful in learning the basics of 3D modeling. This allowed me a much wider range of beginner projects while also not being too taxing on computers.

The scene to the right is a heavily revised version of one of my first 3D projects. Many aspects were changed such as lighting, composition, color, and new models.

Scenes - "Alone"

The scene "Alone" was created while learning many new aspects of Blender. While the style is not as developed as my low poly work, I made a lot of progress in areas of Blender I’m not as familiar with.

The figure in this scene was modeled with inspiration from another "chibi" style character. I applied a basic rig to the model in order to pose them for this scene. The lighting and sky are based on an HDR Image used for realistic lighting. The skin and water use (different) complex materials in order to react to light in a realistic way.

Scenes - Taylor Kiosk

This Kiosk as well as the Electronics Store (below) were created during my internship at Taylor Communications. During the ten weeks, I worked with two other interns creating an interactive 3D mall. This was to run on a low power computer kiosk, so we used the low poly style for performance. Blender was used for asset creation while composition was done in the Unity game engine.

While only a proof of concept, this kiosk sat in the hallway of the mall between connecting businesses. Cell phones were used as placeholder objects.

Scenes - Electronic Store

The mall we created during the internship was divided into three business (one for each person). I created the electronics store and used "Best Buy" for inspiration.

Several weeks were dedicated to creating assets for our stores. In addition to the store’s merchandise, I modeled many tables and sets for the products to be placed on.

Assets

These are some of the most successful/impressive assets I’ve created since I started 3D modeling. Several of these objects were created during the Taylor communications internship for the electronics store.

When creating assets I often use one or more reference photos of the real life object. This helps me keep realistic proportions and also helps when recalling the fine details of an object
